MV George II is unique and extends our commitment to setting new standards within the ocean shipping industry when it comes to environmental sustainability. Formerly known as the steam-powered container ship Horizon Reliance, George II represents the first steam-to liquified natural gas (LNG) diesel conversion in the world.
Our LNG-powered ships significantly reduce emissions compared to diesel, making a positive impact on our port communities. Particulate matter, the fine black dust that's prevalent in port neighborhoods, is 99.9% eliminated as is sulfur, which when mixed with moisture in the air creates sulfuric acid resulting in acidic dew and acid rain. Operating vessels on LNG also results in a 90% reduction in NOx and a 25% reduction in CO2.
